A HISTORICAL RESIDENCE
The Hotel Valézieux is less than a kilometre from the old Abbey of Marmoutier where Martin, Bishop of Tours, retired to meditate in the 13th century. After his death, he became St Martin, one of the most venerated saints in the world. During the Middle Ages the Abbey grew over a vast surrounding area and its authority extended over much of medieval France and to England.
Renovated in the 18th century, the Hotel Valézieux answered to Marmoutier until the Revolution when the estate was stripped of its assets. The Valézieux became a hotel in the 20th century and was able to remain so thanks to the efforts of Mr and Mrs Forest, whose family were fourth-generation landowners.
